Eating Disorders & Teen Nutrition

An individualized approach without a "one size fits all" mindset.

As a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD), I believe in an evidence-based approach to help clients and families on the journey to recovery. Each client is carefully evaluated and provided a personalized plan based on his/her specific needs. I work with clients across the lifespan and specialize in adolescent nutrition. I can also work with families to help them understand the complexities of nutritional needs during recovery.

Adolescent Nutrition

Adolescence is a time of rapid growth and development. There are unique nutritional needs during this important time. There are also unique social needs. Mitola Nutrition specializes in adolescent nutrition, understanding the challenges, and focusing on providing effective care for this age group.

Alyssa had the privilege of assisting in the development of an adolescent-only treatment facility, training with experts in the field, and developing effective programs for teens and their families. She has also worked extensively alongside therapists trained in Family Based Therapy (FBT) and has attended training on the role of a dietitian in Family-Based Therapy (FBT).

Your Child

Families play an essential role in treatment. I will work with your family to keep you informed and provide ways you can best support your loved one. Some teens find it helpful when family members attend sessions and, at times, this is recommended to provide the best care. But we can determine the appropriate level of involvement that fits your family.

I have worked with numerous families over the years and family nutrition is one of my favorite aspects of this work. My goal is to help families to create a definition of health that incorporates body, mind, and spirit.

Adolescent Eating Disorders

When your child is diagnosed with an eating disorder, it can be one of the most frightening times in your life. I am here to support you and your family on your child's return to health.

The earlier a child receives treatment for an eating disorder, the better the long-term outcomes. In fact, risks of relapse decrease significantly if eating disorders are treated during their teen years. Eating disorders are best treated with a team of individuals including a registered dietitian, therapist, and doctor.

If your loved one is struggling with an eating disorder, please reach out. I am happy to help you find the treatment he or she needs. If your child is in a higher level of care and you would like nutrition assistance during a transition or return to the home, please contact me. If you would like more information on Family-Based Therapy (FBT) or connect with providers, I am happy to assist. Family support is a huge protective factor in recovery. Mitola Nutrition offers numerous services for teens and their families to make recovery a possibility.
